In support of UCPB-CIIF Foundation’s reforestation program, 32 members of Management Development Program (MDP) Batch 67 trekked the Mt. Putol na Lata trail in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City on August 17, 2019 to plant 150 narra trees.
UCPB-CIIF Foundation Executive Director Ricky Lepatan led the UCPB volunteers to the tree planting site and briefed them on the program.
“We are thankful to UCPB for participating in the tree planting activity, especially to the volunteers who gave up their Saturday break to help us protect the environment,” Mr. Lepatan said.
Donato Fernan G. Sibayan, President of MDP Batch 67, considers it an extraordinary experience. “There were challenging moments, especially in reaching the site but everyone was just so eager to plant trees to contribute to UCPB’s environmental efforts.”
Clarise Cristelle S. Caces who also joined the activity noted that the tree planting activity was an opportunity to get everyone involved in the conservation of our natural resources. “I’m glad that I was part of this green campaign. This tree planting activity not only reminds us of the benefits of trees but also encourages us to promote environmental stewardship,” she said.
Since 1990, UCPB has sustained the reforestation of a 33.3-hectare area in Sitios Putol na Lata and Kaysakat in Brgy. San Jose, Antipolo City located within the Marikina Watershed. The site is considered as one of the most successful reforestation efforts by a corporate entity in the country. In fact, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources named it a “Model Reforestation Site” in 2009.
