The United Coconut Planters Bank (UCPB) emerged as one of the top three employers from among 97 nominees in the National Capital Region in the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Awards. This is the first nomination and recognition for UCPB in PMAP Awards’ 42-year history.

The Bank received the Exemplar Award under the Employer of the Year category during PMAP’s 639th General Membership Meeting on August 29, 2018 at Fairmont Hotel, Makati City. The other two companies were National Grid Corporation (NGCP) which won the Employer of the Year for NCR, and VXI, a BPO company that specializes in customer management and technology solutions.

The recognition is given to companies that excel in fulfilling its people management responsibilities, continuously improving its HR processes and programs, and reinforcing HR’s alignment with the company’s business objectives and focus on employees.

“This award shows how we truly value our employees. The Bank is able to sustain its competitive advantage through its people who we consider our greatest asset. We invest in opportunities that develop a culture in which our people get to grow with our business,” First Vice President and Human Resources Group Head Stella Maria A. Fulgencio said.

“This is yet another milestone for UCPB as it celebrates its 55th year. The recognition affirms that our People Practices can be emulated in the practice of Human Capital Management,” she added.

Institutionalized in 1977, PMAP’s recognition program follows a strict selection and evaluation process which include site visits and interviews conducted by the PMAP Awards Committee and the Regional Judges. It aims to recognize outstanding organizations and individuals to help advance the people management profession in the country.

BSP’s Warning Against the Improper Handling of Philippine Currency

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) warns the public that the willful defacement, mutilation, tearing, burning or destruction of Philippine banknotes and coins are punishable by a fine of not more than PHP20,000.00 and/or imprisonment of not more than five years, under Presidential Decree No. 247. It also states that Philippine “banknotes and coins are issued for circulation as medium of exchange and to utilize them for other purposes does not speak well of the due respect and dignity befitting our currency.”

The following are among the prohibited acts of defacement and/or mutilation of Philippine currency:

writing or putting marks on banknotes;
willful tearing, burning, or destruction, in any manner, of Philippine currency;
willful and excessive folding or crumpling that results in a breakdown of the structure and limpness of the banknote;
willfully causing multiple random folds across the entire banknote that toughly affect its visual appearance; and
willfully exposing banknotes or coins to chemicals or other materials resulting in the acceleration of the defacement, destruction, or natural wear and tear of the note or coin.

The public is also discouraged to staple banknotes and/or use adhesives to put on banknotes and coins as these will compromise their structural integrity.

The BSP encourages the public to report any information on improper handling of Philippine currency to the nearest police station or law enforcement agency, for appropriate action, or contact the Currency Management Sector for assistance at Tel. Nos. 988-4833 and 926-5092.
