Verified by VISA: Frequently Asked Questions

What is Verified by VISA?

Verified by Visa is a service offered by UCPB in partnership with Visa. This service provides an additional layer of protection for your online purchases.

What additional layer of protection does it provide?

A One-Time Password (OTP) will be required whenever you use your UCPB VISA card to make online purchases from participating merchants. This OTP will be via SMS to your registered mobile number with UCPB, thereby preventing unauthorized usage of your UCPB VISA card on the internet and giving you more confidence about making secure purchases online at participating merchants.

How does it work?

When you finish shopping at a participating Verified by Visa merchant and have provided your UCPB VISA card details at the merchant's check-out page, the Verified by VISA payment window will appear and require you to input the One-Time Password (OTP) sent to your registered mobile number with UCPB.   You will simply have to input the OTP you received via SMS, tick the Accept Terms and Conditions box, then click the "Submit" button to proceed with your payment.

How do I know if the online merchant participates in Verified by VISA?

Participating merchants will have a "Verified by VISA" symbol in their website.

Can I already use this service?

Yes, this service is available to all UCPB VISA Cardholders. Simply ensure that your mobile phone registered with UCPB is updated to receive the One-Time Password (OTP).

Is there a cost to use this service?

Verified by Visa is free to UCPB VISA Cardholders.

What does the Verified by VISA One-Time Password (OTP) look like?

The Verified by Visa One-Time Password (OTP) is a 6 digits number.

I made an online purchase transaction but the Verified by Visa window did not appear. What's wrong?

The merchant must be participating in the Verified by Visa service in order for the window to appear.

Can I still make an online purchase at a merchant that doesn't participate in the Verified by Visa service?

Yes, you can still continue to make online purchases at merchants that do not participate in the Verified by VISA service. You will not see the Verified by VISA payment window prompting you for your One-Time Password (OTP) and the purchase will proceed as is. Shopping at participating Verified by Visa merchants however will provide you the extra security of confirming your transaction with the One-Time Password (OTP) sent to your mobile number.

I did not receive an SMS containing my Verified by VISA One-Time Password (OTP). What should I do?

Please check if the mobile number you registered with UCPB is updated. The last 4 digits of your mobile number will be indicated in the Verified by VISA payment window for your reference.   If your mobile number is updated, please give time for the OTP to be sent to your mobile number. You may also click the "Regenerate OTP" button in the Verified by VISA payment window to request for a new OTP. Please note that the Regenerate OTP button can only be clicked up to 3 times.   If you still did not receive the OTP, please contact your UCPB maintaining branch for further assistance.

I entered the One-Time Password (OTP) I received but I encountered an error saying that it already expired. What should I do?

To ensure security of the One-Time Password (OTP), the OTP is only valid for 5 minutes from the time the Verified by VISA payment window is shown, therefore please ensure to input the OTP immediately.   If your OTP has already expired, you may click the "Regenerate OTP" button in the Verified by VISA payment window to request for a new OTP. The new OTP will also be valid for 5 minutes and will expire if not used.
